Still a few days and 3 December Govone, a charming village on the Piedmont hills of Roero, will turn into magical Christmas country. For more than a month, until the Epiphany, it will welcome visitors with its streets illuminated by thousand colorful lights, birich elves and picturesque characters, ancient and new nativity scenes, engaging concerts, fireworks show (11 December) and cheerful animations in the House of Santa Natale, that is the Real Castello Sabaudo, UNESCO site and symbol of the Country. In short, a place where to revive the most authentic spirit of the festival and create a valid and pleasant alternative to the usual Christmas markets.
Fulcro of this fairytale atmosphere is the Casa di Santa Natale, which will be animated with costumed characters, music, cheerful animations of the Birichin Elves and visitable all weekends; flagers will perform, instead, on the weekend of 4/11/18 December, while an exhibition of photos and cribs will be set up at the Church of the Holy Spirit. There are cooking classes (also with star chefs) at Serra di Govon and, finally, you can have lunch with the excellent menu of the territory by booking the Heated Pavilion for only 12 euros (10 euros for children). Not to be missed, then, the large bio market that fills the ancient streets of Govone, rich in colors and scents that heat the winter, with 40 houses of fragrant wood collected between the squares and the Viale del Castello Sabaudo.
Sustainability, Km 0, biological certification: al Magic Christmas Country you will understand why it is so important to meet directly producers and products of the territory. It will not only be the fragrances of the red stacked apples, the lively yellow of the meliga eight rows, the sounding aroma of the hot chocolate or the smooth and perfect roundness of the hazelnuts to involve young and old in the sensory and gastronomic journey.
It will also be to finally taste foods ‘that really know about something’; it will be that you will suddenly feel that at Christmas you have to be more good even with yourself and the Earth that hosts us, treating yourself well and nourishing carefully. But above all it will be the opportunity to do – and make – different gifts, supporting nature and a way to work and live more ‘slow’ and respectful of the environment.
