It was the real surprise of my last trip on Thailand. I speak of Koh Samui, the main island of the Samui archipelago, in the Gulf of Siam. Starting from Na Thon, the city that developed around the main port, you can easily reach the village of Bo Phut Bay, where there is the monastery of the Great Buddha, locally known as Wat Phrai Yai, dominated by a statue of the Buddha high twelve meters, which is one of the largest tourist attractions on the island. Another popular destination, especially from the locals, is the beautiful beach of Lamai, in Hua Thanon, perfect for a dive, but also to see Hin Ta and Hin Yai, literally "The Rocks of the Grandfather and Grandmother", considered symbols of fertility and therefore destination of pilgrimage of local couples. 
For Thai handicraft shopping, silk, but also bags and accessories of great brand 100% taroccati, you go to Chaweng, fashionable resort of east coast of the island with high concentration of hotels, luxury restaurants and open bars. Here is also the Chaweng Thai Boxing Stadium, the largest in the country, considered the true temple of Thai boxing, the scene of the challenges of the champions of this sport that has now a planetary diffusion.
What about sports, how about an immersion or snorkelling on Thailand’s most spectacular coral reef? Then you just have to reach the islets of Koh Thao and Koh Nang Yuan, true paradises for diving. Not less fascinating are the submerged scenarios recreated in the Samui Aquarium, where you can admire myriads of tropical fish and marine creatures, including the sociable turtles: a must if you travel with children.
