Our journey begins in the city of Tomar, Lisbon region, center of great artistic and cultural interest. A heritage that culminates in the Convent of Christ, one of the greatest works of the history of Portuguese art, today included UNESCO World Heritage. It is a site of great mysticism, which combines with garb different styles: Romanesque, Gothic and Mannerism.
Not only does the Convent deserve a stop in Tomar. Also the Gothic churches of Santa Maria do Olival and São João Baptista will lead you into an evocative time leap, among precious works of art that live, speak and tell of a time that was. The castle was built in 1160 by the Templars. At the time it was the most modern and advanced military construction of the kingdom, inspired by the fortifications of the Crusaders in the Holy Land. A visit to the Capela de Nossa Senhora da Conceição is a must on the way back.
After so much art, you can relax with a walk in the Parque do Mouchão: a green area, crossed by the Nabão river, which still retains today the wheel of a mill, an indispensable tool for the local economy and today one of the most picturesque and photographed places in the city.
