If you are fond of flowers and gardening you definitely know Keukenhof, the most famous flower park in the world, where every spring is staged the most spectacular flowering of tulips that you can imagine.
As you will easily understand, this unique park is located in the Netherlands, about thirty kilometers from Amsterdam, for precision. It extends over an area of 32 hectares where bloom more than 7 million bulb flowers among tulips, narcissi, giacinti and where there are about 20 floral exhibitions, inspiring gardens and events of various kinds.
This year’s theme is "The Golden Age", the historical period during which the Netherlands "flowered" in the fields of commerce, science, art and in which the flourishing trade of tulips developed.
The heart of the event is the floral mosaic, for which about 100,000 bulbs of tulips, mosquitoes and crocus have been planted, which, once bloomed, create a colorful picture of 250 square meters that represents the characteristic houses along the canals of Amsterdam, a ship and the sea as a symbol of transport and commerce.
Many events planned. Start with the weekend "Antique Dutch Traditions" (1-3 April), during which you can watch traditional dances, listen to typical music and admire living statues representing characters from the Dutch past.
In addition to the typical costumes there will also be ancient objects, such as ancient bicycles and other objects used by traders of the Golden Age. There will be performances by artisans who decorate the symbolic hoofs, smoke eels and prepare the typical mou candies. For the young will be organized recreational activities inspired by those practiced in the past by Dutch children.
On 23 April the traditional Flower carts thread with imposing and magnificent allegorical wagons richly decorated with thousands of deposits, tulips and narcissus, which runs along a route from Haalem to Noordwijk, passing by the Keukenhof park.
May 7 and 8 will be dedicated to Romanticism at Keukenhof, a full-immersion in the typical 19th century atmosphere, between period costumes and classical music. In addition to the unforgettable visit of the park, you can cycle through the bulbous fields around the park.
