Aarhus (Denmark)
The second largest city in Denmark is the European Capital of Culture 2017. The city has already prepared a program with more than 350 events, including half free. There will be theatre and dance performances, concerts, opera, literary events, sports and gastronomy, united by the slogan −Let’s Rethink — (Rethink) and with the goal of inspiring diversity and sustainability. Many projects, including the 'opening of new spaces at the ARoS Museum, but the offer is varied, from the characteristic −Iceberg district — to the innovative Dokk1 library in the port area, to the restored old town.
Mantua (Italy)
The city with the best quality of life in 2017 becomes part of the European Region of Gastronomy together with Bergamo, Brescia and Cremona, in practice eastern Lombardy. And no wonder, in Mantua there are over 22 Michelin star restaurants, 25 Denominations of controlled origin and many other PDOs and IPGs. Culture and gastronomy here are well connected, cuisine is considered an integral part of the cultural identity of this region.
Cardiff (United Kingdom)
2017 is not the year of the world or European football, but this Welsh city, which is located at the same latitude of London, but on the west coast, will host the Champions League final 2017, Saturday 3 June at 20:45. The main attraction will be the Millennium Stadium, an imposing and impressive structure with retractable roof, the largest in the world. A few meters from the stadium is the Cardiff Castle, built in 1091 and renovated in the Victorian era. All around you can visit the elegant Victorian porticos, full of shops and inviting cafes. 
Paphos (Cipro)
The motto of Pafos for 2017, the year in which it was elected European capital of culture, is "Linking continents – Bridging cultures - (-Joining continents – Building bridges between cultures). Paphos has a rich historical heritage and many attractions, including remains of temples, castles, fortresses, amphitheaters, the famous Roman mosaics of Aphrodite and the archaeological site of Kato Paphos, included in the List of UNESCO World Heritage Sites.
Fatima (Portugal)
13 May 2017 we celebrate the centenary of the apparitions of the Virgin to the three pastors, occasion in which, almost certainly, Pope Francis will come on visit, which will be the fourth Pope to come here. The cult of Fatima, which is about 130 kilometers from Lisbon, was born between May 13 and October 13, 1917, when three Portuguese children, Lucia, Giacinta and Francisco, said they had witnessed various apparitions of the Virgin. For 100 years, in addition to religious celebrations and pilgrimages, there will be a rich cultural program that includes concerts, exhibitions, theatre and conferences.
Wittenberg (Germany)
It's been 500 years since Martin Luther posted his 95 thesis on the door of the church of the castle of Wittenberg. Although the year cannot be established with certainty, it was an event that changed the world and in 2017 will celebrate a great anniversary, not only in the Lutheran cities of Wittenberg and Eisleben. Different paths have been arranged that have the figure of Luther in the center. For example, you can visit the castle of Wartburg, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, which stands on an entire hill and is visible from the whole area. Luther found refuge in 1522, under the pseudonym of -Squire George—and translated the New Testament into German.
Pistoia (Italy)
Famous also as the small Florence -, Pistoia has nothing to envy to the other cities of Tuscany and definitely deserves a visit in 2017, year in which it was elected Capital of Italian culture. The concentration of art and architecture of Pistoia would be enough to attract many visitors, but it has always been a bit darkened by the nearby Florence. Pistoia is famous especially for its artistic resources of great value, including the cathedral of the XII – XIII century, with the extraordinary pulpit of Giovanni Pisano.
Moscow (Russia)
Although the revolutionaries are now a distant memory, throughout the country, and in particular in its capital, Moscow, in 2017 the centenary of the Russian Revolution is celebrated (February-October 1917), an event that will not fail to pay attention. Moscow, which in 2017 will host the Fifa Confederations Cup and the 2018 World Cup, aims to become an ultramodern metropolis, able to stand out for the style of its imposing architecture. The city will become exceptionally well connected, thanks to the domodedovo airport doubling and a new metro line and new attractions such as the Moscow Polytechnic Museum and Educational Centre will be born in a spectacular building in the Passeri Hills area. 
Buenos Aires - Argentina
The Argentine capital has obtained the title Latin American capital of gastronomic culture 2017, inherit it from Spanish Merida. Many activities will take place throughout the year, including the Congress on the gastronomy of the 21st century, visit of famous chefs of America, Spain and Portugal, a regional gastronomic fair and many other events that aim to promote local products in the international scene. With its typical barbecue, osterie features, fusion kitchen bistros, American-style cafes or pizzerias, famous bars, innovative cocktails, organic markets and fairs, Buenos Aires has been one of favorite destinations of gastronomic tourism and cultural.
Helsinki (Finland)
The Finnish capital will be at the heart of many of the celebrations for centenary of independence of the country. Among the various events, not to miss the various exhibitions on the design and culture of the country, the carnival of samba, the numerous concerts and cultural events that will fill the city. Bordeaux (France)
Lonely Planet’s travel experts have chosen it as most attractive destination to visit in 2017, and the city of Bordeaux is preparing not to disappoint. It’s been defined the −Bella Addormentata — but it is perfectly awake and ready to show. Bordeaux has some of the best preserved historic buildings in France, except Paris. The new line LGV South-West, which will enter into operation in mid-2017, and which will connect the city to the European high-speed train network, will reduce the travel time from Paris to only two hours. In addition, the recent opening of the Cité du Vin (the City of Wine), near the Garonna, confirms the desire to elect it as a favourite of the food and wine tourism who wants to make known his traditions and delicacies. 
Alghero (Italy)
The Sardinian town offers many good reasons to visit it in 2017 or at any other time. But this year will host the departure of the hundredth Giro d'Italia that will allow the inhabitants of the second largest island of the Mediterranean to enjoy for three days the pink race that will pass to Olbia, Tortolì and Cagliari. Going to Alghero is like making a journey back in time, to the events that took place here in the Middle Ages.
