You want to earn money working from home? Simple, open a Bed and Breakfast. Very diffuse in the Anglo-Saxon countries and in France, where it is known by the name chambre d’hotes, the stay at private as a more informal and economic alternative to the hotel, is a constantly growing formula also from us.
As confirmed by a survey carried out by LateRooms from which it emerges that customers are increasingly (78%) looking for a stay in a B&B, while bookings towards this type of hospitality increase every year by 40%. At the same time, there are more and more Italians who decide to open the doors of their house to the tourist to offer a quality and personalized welcome, focused mainly on the sharing of the spaces and valued by the desire to communicate their traditions.
LateRooms went further, asking about 200 owners to tell their experience. Among these, really representative is the story of the Surdo family, which has renovated the Art Nouveau building overlooking the port of Trapani where the grandfather built sails for the motorboats, turning it into a sought-after B&B, called Belveliero.
"My sister Veronica and I, of 25 and 28 years, after having lived several working experiences in Italy and abroad, we decided to return to Sicily and in 2010 was born the B&B Belveliero with its rooms with stuccoes, ancient Sicilian floors of 900, bathrooms in room, balconies sea view to allow our guests to stay in the rooms of the brave Captain Surdo".
Tradition and peasant history are at the heart of the story of B&B Gli Angeli, in Castiglione di Cervia (Ravenna). "In 2000 I decided to open the doors of my house to those people who appreciate the traditions and objects of the past: my house is a small museum where there are rare objects of peasant civilization, old tools to work the land, ancient kitchen utensils, all handed down to me by the grandmother. I am very attached to the Romagna traditions and that's why I let my guests taste homemade desserts and explain to them the history of every object".
The peasant tradition is also found in the history of Il Palazzo a Solto Collina (Bergamo): the house where the current B&B rises dates back to the end of 1700, and was at the center of the country's agricultural life in the period from the end of 1700 to the whole of 1900. "My grandfather Francis had 14 children: they all lived between the ground floor and the first floor while the second floor was used for the cultivation of silkworm.
The current dependence was instead the place of the old spinning mill. Farmers and women of the spinning mill, wagons and animals, animated the life of the Palace throughout the day. In 2005 the structure was adapted to modern needs without losing the building characteristics of the past and preserving tranquility and landscape values".
