Graz is one of the most trendy cities in Europe. Passionate about new trends, creatives, architects and designers from around the world have been given an appointment in the Austrian city on the occasion of the month of design, which until June 5th celebrates Graz City of Design Unesco.
A recognition that is not merely a title that rewards a center with state-of-the-art buildings, signed by famous architects, museums dedicated to contemporary art, shopping opportunities inspired by the dècor. "Design City" indicates an attitude of the city, its desire to immerse yourself not only in design but also in creativity, the desire to open the doors to everything that is new, that helps to live better, that gives a smile.
In short, Design City is a city, like Graz, with a huge impulse to life, with a desire to grow, to improve, to become more beautiful and more attractive, even with great events, that impregnate economics and tourism.
The candidacy, strongly wanted by the Assessorato all’Economia della Stiria and the City of Graz, focused on promoting and consolidating, in Graz, the economy of creativity. An economy that wants to draw the world around man and the environment, focusing on global well-being, interpreting the word design as the possibility to shape the city, services, and new products. Looking for the beautiful but also what is practical, functional, which does not pollute.
Which helps to have a better future. The title of Design City in Graz, then, acquires even more value if it is considered that the iron city is a UNESCO World Heritage Site of Culture, with its baroque historic center, all pedestrian, since 1999 and with the Eggenberg Castle since 2010.
Design and history, contemporary architecture and palaces Jugenstil, the Kunsthaus, the bubble-shaped museum covered by a plexiglass skin and the Arsenale, original, sixteenth-century, still with its treasure of weapons, and, again, the Opera, pomposa and neobarocca, and the Casa della Musica, a transparent cube, from which the seven notes emerge, in Graz convivono, interact.
Plus there are many unmissable events. Since the current month of design with a kaleidoscope of meetings with great artists and architects, presentations of new products and, above all, the involvement of young creatives who will experience in all fields, from ecology to catering, from hospitality to entertainment. And then, from the first to the five of June, Sprinfestival, the festival of art and electronic music, with visual artist, dj, heroes of the underground scene and a buzz of unmissable parties.
