First stop: Castle of Bardi – The Love Winning the Death

The fatal day saw knights arrive with enemy banners and, believing his beloved dead, threw himself from the tower. Tragic irony of fate: those knights were led by victorious Moroello, who brought enemy flags as trophies of war.
The commander, finding the lifeless body of his beloved, made the same extreme gesture. From that day, on full moon nights, you still feel your sighs echoing in the walls of the castle.

Giulia died only 30 years after her fifth birth, but her love for the wife was so strong that she could overcome her death. Augustine tells in his writings how his wife continued to visit him in the master bedroom, appearing sitting on a walnut case with affectionate reproach: "Consort, why does your Lordship never come here to see me? "
The feudatario describes every detail of these meetings: hugs, kisses, caresses, and how it remained "sweet and wet by so many tears" every time she disappeared. A love story that transcends death, documented with the precision of a chronicler and the passion of a lover.

Your journey continues towards Pellegrino, the scene of the first case of "spectral tourism" of history. On March 15, 1827, mayor Giordano Marubbi wrote a report that today would drive social media crazy: a "white lady" appeared every night at 18:15 exact and disappeared at midnight.
The news became viral ante litteram. Three hundred people a day rushed from the whole region to witness the phenomenon. From Parma came gentlemen in gaiters and ladies with elaborate hats, ready for the "ghost watching". The first tourist packages of history were organized: carriage, dinner at the inn, overnight and breakfast, all included to see a ghost.
Who was the white lady? Probably the spirit of Manfredo Pallavicino, captured in 1428 by the terrible Niccolò Piccinino, tortured and strangled in the secret of the castle (also visitable for the bravest). The spectral business continued until the Ducal Dragons arrived to ban the assemblies. The ghost, offended by ingratitude, decided not to show itself any more.

After three pregnancies and two children died in suspicious circumstances, at the third childbirth – two twins – Beatrice made an extreme gesture of motherly love: she sprinkled with oil, set fire and hurried to her uncle carrying him in the afterlife. Not a suicide, but the supreme sacrifice of a mother to save her children.
According to legend, Beatrice still wanders the castle in white dress as a protector spirit of mothers and children, ready to intervene against anyone threatening the innocent. Modern instrumental analysis confirmed "anomalous predictions" particularly active in its area of manifestation.
