A succession of forests with an eye loss and coastline marked by mighty rivers characterize the Duplessis region, which develops in southern Quebec between Labrador and the Gulf of San Lorenzo. The road stops in front of the eastern tip of the island of Anticosti and from there it continues by sea, on the ship that supplies the long splinter of villages of Basse-Côte-Nord: it is the Nordik Express Express, that from April to January flows the waters of San Lorenzo to transport goods and persons between a port and the other of Moyenne and Basse-Côte-Nord, 12 boarding stations to be gently transported along coast marked by majestic rivers and dotted by tiny villages. Nordik explores fascinating territories, – populated by the native Montagnais – that attract lovers of fishing, hunting, snowmobile and adventure in the side. Embark in Rimouski, Sept-Îles, Havre-St-Pierre, Natashquan, Port-Menier, Kegaska, La Romaine, Harrington Harbour, Tête-à-la-Baleine, La Tabatière, Saint-Augustin, Blanc-Sablon for an excursion or a small cruise: the Nordik Express sails where the only asphalt leaves the place.
Beyond Natashquan and up to Blanc-Sablon, the coastal merchant allows us to discover about fifteen villages and towns (among which Harrington Harbour is perhaps the best known) that punctuate the coast to the border with Newfoundland.
To the north of Port-Cartier, in the deep hinterland, visit Fermont and its open-air iron mine, among the largest in North America in its kind. And why not go to the island of Anticosti, almost as big as Corsica, the kingdom of the deer of Virginia? There are not a few ships that, over time, have strayed on the cliffs of this rebel island, which boasts among other things a remarkable national park established to protect numerous natural sites (falesia, canyons, caves, waterfalls and rivers) spectacular and unjustly unfamiliar.
Between the island and the coast, around the Archipel-de-Mingan (now declared a national nature reserve archipelago) the sea and the wind have carved gigantic monoliths from the most unpredictable forms, on which they interweave their flights the sea fleas and other marine birds.
