With more 390 km of cycle paths and 2000 public bikes available to residents and tourists, Copenhagen really deserves the title Bike City. To the point that it was chosen by the UCI, the International Cycling Union, to host from 27 to 31 July the World Championships UCI 2011 BMX and then, from 19 to 25 September, the World Championships UCI road cycling, which coincides with the Copenhagen Bicycle Festival, dedicated to all aspects of the culture of cycling.
An additional reason to discover the city riding a "two wheels", using obviously the colorful city bikes. The bikes are available leaving a simple deposit of 20 Danish crowns (approximately €2.50). 2010 marked the 15th season in which 2,000 city bikes invaded the urban landscape from April to November. With 110 bike bases in the center, there is always a bike nearby and the 4 mobile workshops ensure that the bikes are daily in good condition. In 2013 a completely innovative bike model, the City Bike Model, will embellish the streets of Copenhagen.
Guests of many hotels in the city can rent a bike at the reception of the host facility for about 100 crowns per day (approx. €14). For example, the Arp-Hansen Group hotel chain offers this service in 9 of its hotels in the city centre.
A good alternative is to make a safari bike with a personal guide. It is a new and dynamic way of living the city life and its architecture. Copenhagen Tour and Bike Copenhagen with Mike organize guided tours for individuals or groups. The routes range from various themes such as the history of Copenhagen, the footsteps of Hans Christian Andersen, Danish Design or routes such as Photos and Quiz, Big City Organics and Nightlife. The routes can last from a minimum of 2 hours until you reach a maximum of 5 and you can add to the experience a lunch in the green along the road.
For those who want to explore the surroundings of the city, La Selandia del Nord offers an abundance of picturesque roads by bike. One of these is the Strandvejen (via the beach), tRa Copenhagen and Helsingør and stage of the "Percorso Margherita", a road inserted in particularly suggestive landscapes. Enjoy the view of the narrow Øresund, the imposing villas that populate the coast, Bellevue Beach, Dyrehaven (The deer park) and the Eremitage castle.
Not to be missed are the visits to the many attractions overlooking the street: the Danmarks Aquarium (Denmark Aquarium) in Charlottenlund, the Karen Blixen Museum in Rungsted, the Louisiana Modern Art Museum in Humlebæk and the Hamlet Castle in Helsingør. There are also over 3,000 km of national cycling routes that wind up in the Danish landscape.
