Take nine travel bloggers and a tropical island with lightning beauty such as Mauritius, add a plentiful dose of rhum, which is the most typical local product, shaken (i.e. scarrozzateli – bloggers – up and down the island) enough and you will get an overwhelming blend of impressions, emotions, information, straights and tips that could definitely come back in handy in case you are planning a trip to this Indian Ocean paradise. And if you do not have visible departures, just let yourself be inspired by the places I visited for you following me in the exploration of Mauritius and its wonders.
After the flash post of recent days on Twitter and Facebook, here's the story of this fantastic week at MTPA's guest tropics – Mauritius Tourism Promotion Authority http://www.tourism-mauritius.mu/it/, which I shared with the bloggers of the photo below, became an increasingly busy group as they spent the days: Luca "Golix" Golinelli, Federica Piersimoni, Alessandra Gesuelli, Cristiano Guidetti, Francesca "Fraaccordo" Barbieri, Irene Cacciola, Denis Strickner, Cabiria Magni and Valeria Pace representing MTPA Italy.
Landed in Mauritius after more than 11 hours of flight with Meridiana, the only airline that this winter directly connects Italy to the island of the Indian Ocean, I could not help not to notice the great and brand new airport terminal, inaugurated only in September: a business card perfectly up to one of the top destinations of international luxury tourism.
In addition to new, the airport seemed to me also efficient, with a fluid document control and a fast baggage delivery: the time of a stamp on the passport after a completely smooth tail and the bags were already on the conveyor belt.
Needless to deny it, an efficient service since arrival is exactly what you expect from a destination that bases most of your pil on an up-level tourism, which is not content with anything less than proper treatment and high-level hospitality. And in this regard we are not disappointed, because in Mauritius there are practically all the "great signatures" of the international hotel, there is only the embarrassment of choice.
Starting from Beachcomber Hotels and Resorts, Mauritian group of exclusive resorts located in the most spectacular corners of the island, which hosted me for the first three nights at Trou aux Biches Resort & Spa and then at Dinarobin Hotel Golf & Spa, while the last days were at Club Med La Pointe aux Canonniers (at each resort I will dedicate a separate post, stay tuned!). All perfect locations from which to explore the interior of the island and discover that in addition to golden beaches and sea of all shades of blue, there is much more in Mauritius.
For example, a fascinating colonial past, linked to the cultivation of sugar cane, always considered the white gold of the island, of which Mauritius is still one of the world's largest producers. To learn more about the history and the local sugar industry I visited theAventure du Sucre http://www.aventuredusucre.com in Beau Plan, a centre entirely dedicated to the island’s main economic activity for centuries.
An interactive museum of new conception, set in an ancient sugar factory, the Beau Plan Sugar Factory, active until 15 years ago. Instead of demolishing it, it was well thought to make it a place of dissemination dedicated to the cultivation of cane and the production of sugar, valorizing the old machinery, without forgetting also an old "chaland", the tin used for the transport of sugar.
All this seems to recall the colonial era of the great plantations, of which it remains trace only in the last historical houses scattered around the island and which today outline a fascinating itinerary suspended between history, ancient traditions... and watered by rhum in abundance.
