Booking an online trip is now a boy's game, but are we really sure we can be divided into the labyrinth of travel terminology? In order not to risk wrong booking, by sending up the holiday or by remittance of own pocket, this simple glossary can be useful to decipher the most common terms used by the operators of the sector.
Travel agency/ virtual travel agency
The travel agency is a company that carries out an activity linked to the production and organization of travel and stays. An online or virtual travel agency is an enterprise that organizes and sells travel products through the internet and the web. All traditional and virtual travel agencies can exercise their business only through a license issued by the region of residence "following verification of the professional skills of the manager, the existence of a financial guarantee and an insurance contract".
Ticket online
Today, that everything passes from the internet, it is also interesting to start to know better the world of online tickets or electronic tickets. It defines an electronic ticket (or e-ticket) a non-paper ticket purchased via the internet or by telephone: this format replaces the traditional card ticket, but it does not apply as an invoice. The online ticket represents a contract between the traveler and the transporter and is exclusively nominated, notifying the time and number of the flight, the name of the company and the chosen class.
Open Ticket
If you are insecure about when you return from the holidays and you prefer to wait the last minute to book, the open ticket is the ideal solution. The open ticket is equivalent to a return ticket; the difference is that it allows the traveler to decide the return date freely, within the limits of the validity of the transport title (usually one year from the issue).
Charter
The charter flight is only available through a travel agency. These are commercial flights organized outside official hours (very soon or late in the day) and communicated only a week before departure. Most of them are cheap flights that the airline fails or cannot sell, made with aircraft rented by specialized companies or regular companies with a free aircraft.
Frequent flyer
For all those who, for business or leisure reasons, spend more time flying than in the car, the Frequent Flyer formula is perfect. Most airlines have thought of a ‘Loyalty Program’ for travelers who move frequently; the most loyal customers are entitled to a range of services, additional services and free of charge.
Forfait (or package)
The forfait indicates a set of services that are sold by travel agencies or tour operators. Usually the package includes a return flight, transfers from/to the airport and stay. There are also broader forfait formulas, called "inclusive tours", which include meals, trips and car rental. More and more common the type of package "all inclusive".
Open jaw
The open-jaw air ticket is made for those who need to land in a city and
to start again, even if not in the same country. The only obligation to purchase this type of ticket is that the connection between the two cities is served by the airline chosen for your trip!
Travel package
The package or package is a travel product that is sold at a lump sum. The package lasts more than 24 hours and includes at least two of the following services: transport, accommodation and another element such as car rental.
More and more in line with the flexibility needs of new travelers, the so-called "dinamic packaging" are now very common, allowing the user to package the package at their own convenience.
Everything is easily completed through the internet, purchasing the performance you prefer: air ticket, accommodation, tour, activity, car rental etc. Different services purchased through the dynamic package cost less than if purchased separately. In addition, you can choose according to your preferences and book a 5-star hotel with a low-cost flight.
