From meta vip to small capital of contemporary art: it is the metamorphosis of the island of Capri, which until 5 October is the location of more than 25 works of art – among sculptures, audio and video installations, night projections, exhibitions, performances -, 40 artists involved, Italian and international, and an exhibition route that winds across the island: from the medieval Certosa di San Giacomo to the famous Belvedere di Tragara, passing through houses and private terraces, courtyards and gardens of great hotels.

For a month, the project Capri The Island of Art brings on the island contemporary languages of art in an ideal path, spread over the territory of the municipalities of Capri and Anacapri, designed to involve the public, even the most frantic and distracted, and thus foster new cultural and sensory approaches to the places of the island. For a month Capri becomes a space for artistic experimentation, diffused gallery, indoor and open air, place of encounter and comparison between artists and different languages: sculpture, painting, photography, net art, audio and video art, performance.

The project, promoted by Liquid Art System and produced by Franco Senesi, with the artistic direction of Marco Izzolino, the support of the Municipality of Capri and the Municipality of Anacapri, is a zero edition, debut, but with a mission precise: to give the island an international artistic centrality.

All projects were designed by artists to interact with the local community and adapt to the territory. This debut edition, in fact, was born to begin experimenting with the possibilities of an exhibition that extends to the whole island.

The places and people of Capri and Anacapri will become an integral part of artistic interventions and it is not to exclude that the final result of each individual installation can exceed the intentions of the artists themselves. Other projects, initially studied and experimented on the territory since this year, will see their full realization only next year. Everything in the perspective of experimentation and dialogue with the territory that begins from this edition.
