From 25 to 28 September Rome becomes the capital of travel and travellers with Travel Literature Festival, four days dedicated to the story of the world through different forms of narration of the journey, of places and cultures: from literature proper to geography, from photography to journalism, from cinema to theater and drawing.
The central category is the journey, intended as a combination and crossing of worlds, remote or near, as a discovery and encounter, an opportunity of knowledge, a disposition to listening, education to otherness. The 2014 edition of the Festival is divided into over forty meetings with authors, exhibitions, awards, workshops, screenings, shows, guided tours.
It is divided into three moments: PreFestival of a week, from 18 to 24 September, in different locations of the city; a main body of events, that is the real Festival, from 25 to 28 September, between the Prehistoric Museum of Ethnographic Luigi Pigorini, the Museum of Rome Palazzo Braschi and Palazzetto Mattei with the gardens of Villa Celimontana, seat of the Italian Geographical Society, which in those days turns into a sort of "house of travel"; a Circuit of collateral events from 18 September to 16 November.
PreFestival is an ever-increasing set of events distributed in various places in the city, with particular attention to the peripheries, including a marathon dantesca in the circuit of the libraries of Rome, intercultural itineraries in the multiethnic heart of the Capital, guided tours in the houses-museum of writers and radioguided walks on literary tracks.
Back to the usual Writing and photography workshop on travel, articulated in several meetings, with the participation of journalists and photoeditor of important Italian publications, and three new laboratories open: a Laboratory on the documentary on the journey, a Workshop of writings, drawings and readings dedicated to children and inspired by the Thousand and one night, and a Storytelling workshop diffused for bloggers and narrators who describe the Lazio territory. It is renewed the appointment with the Prize entitled to Ryszard Kapuscinski for the reportage, which comes to the third edition, in collaboration with the Kapuscinski Family, Feltrinelli Editore and the Polish Institute of Rome, which has seen in the past editions assigning recognition to authors like Paolo Rumiz and Ferdinando Scianna.
And it also returns Italian Geographic Society Award The Navicella d’Oro, which is delivered from the first edition of the Festival to authors who have declined in their works the theme of travel or associations that have distinguished themselves for their commitment to defense of places and cultures. This year the award will be presented to the writer Claudio Magris, in the closing event of the Festival. To these are added the prize for the best project presented within the Workshop of Writing and Photography in Travel and the one dedicated to travel bloggers.
Among the exhibitions planned Travel Literature Festival 2014 at the Museo di Roma Palazzo Braschi the photo collective "Destination Hope", curated by the Parallelozero agency on travels around the world to tell the right to health, and at the National Prehistoric Museum Luigi Pigorini the exhibition "Eritrea. The Red Country" with the support of the Ministry of Education, University and Research.
Numerous events and events meetings with authors, travellers and storytellers differently. Among the guests are Claudio Magris, Gianni Berengo Gardin, Simonetta Agnello Hornby, Michele Mari, Walter Siti, David Van Reybrouck, Ettore Mo, Bernardo Valli, Paolo Rumiz, Walter Veltroni, Sandra Petrignani, Paolo Di Paolo, Valerio Massimo Manfredi and many more. The writer Dacia Maraini will be present with an exclusive video interview, produced by the Festival. Space, in the evening, to the shows with the presence of Voices in the Desert, artistic and civil experiment in the form of theatrical collective, with two focus on the Great War and the Grand Tour.
