Useful, reliable, always available and ready to make life easier, have now become our inseparable travel companions. I'm talking about apps, of course, small and discreet high-tech tricks capable of making the trip easier and fun. Here are my favorites, 8 travel apps you can no longer do without.
1. The Condé Nast Johansens guide
Condé Nast Johansens is the reference guide for independent travellers who do not give up style. The free downloadable app from Condenastjohansens.com/app is a source of constant inspiration if you are looking for a luxury hotel, exotic spa, country house, boutique hotel, selected by top magazine editors like Vogue, Glamour and Vanity Fair. Really a must have on your smartphone!
2. Momondo places
The ideal if you love to cut out your travels on the mood of the moment: Momondo's younger sister was designed to visit cities based on the situation. You know, a business trip has tight stages, but during a holiday you can let yourself be taken by hand and lead you through new colors, sounds, smells and flavors.
Still different is the jump from a couple weekend to a family trip, so the app tries to offer unique experiences, divided between 6 different moods: Romantic, Social, Family, Local, Cultural and Fancy. The catalogue now includes a dozen metropolises (Amsterdam, Bangkok, Barcelona, Berlin, Copenhagen, Lisbon, London, New York, Paris and Rome), but new destinations are constantly added.
3. Skyline
Elegant, clean and functional, this application for booking flights is all a traveller can want. Its simplicity is to do exactly what you expect from an app like this, without unnecessary additional functions that would slow down the process.
Skyscanner not only helps you to find flights, but also to find the best fares to travel and does it by aggregating in one place the data from all airlines. If you want to be careful about the budget it is also possible to monitor price fluctuations to understand which are the most convenient days and times to leave for a given trip.
4. Google Goggles
Arriving at the destination is all perfect, start walking and you will find yourself in front of monuments and museums. You may have a vague awareness of what you see, but you would need a guide! In the absence of someone from the place to question this app is all you need.
Simply point the camera to a building and the application will guide you directly to the dedicated Wikipedia page. Of course it must be quite important structures to have a dedicated page but the database is impressive and also works with paintings, images, bar codes and QR codes and popular products.
5. Everno
Between mail confirming the flights and the hotel, list of things to see and suggestions of friends on museums not to be missed, there are notes to keep in hand when traveling. Fortunately, there are apps like Evernote: a single safe place to store everything with simplicity.
The different devices are automatically synced via the app and this allows you to store documents and tickets without fear of losing them during your trip. Another advantage is that it can also be used on the spot to upload photos and split them into albums!
6. Packing Pro
The only negative side of this app is that it is paid. For the rest it is a very useful resource for all those who have to make a suitcase panic. Since forgetting the things at home or losing the lists made in the days before the trip is, unfortunately, human, this app helps to remember all the indispensable to pack. A plus not to be underestimated: the choices vary depending on the owner of the smartphone, so that you are a man or a woman, you will be sure not to forget what you really need!
7. Free WiFi Finder
Dedicated to all those who at each trip fight with data roaming, this app is perfect for always surfing the internet at no cost. Thanks to the map you can always see where the hotspots are closest to you, search for free Wifi networks all over the world (including 144 nations) and, luckily, it also works offline!
8. ♪
If you love to visit cities using public transport, this app is perfect to distract you in the vast world of underground transport. Ideal for exploring cities like London, New York and Paris, calculates the fastest route to get to your destination taking into account the time you travel and the day of the week. You will know the frequency of the races and you will always know how and how long you will get to your destination!
