Born from an ancient feast celebrating the liberation from slavery on August 1, 1834, Jumpin’n Jammin, the Carnival of Antigua which is celebrated in full summer, is the most anticipated event of the Caribbean island. 10 days, between the end of July and the beginning of August, of overwhelming kaleidoscopic festival between non-stop music, dance, tasting of local specialties, street parades, evening shows, musical performances and exhibitions of local handicraft products.
The streets of the capital St John dress for the celebrations that culminate on the first Monday of August with the Juvei Morning, when all the inhabitants of the island gather in the light of the fires, forming a gigantic and colorful dancing serpentine. During the Carnival, the island is pervaded by a total ferment, which counts in equal measure adults and children.
