Get with me on board Tuscany Coast the new green ship of Costa Crociere, a true floating smart city inspired by the wonderful Italian region.

As sent by the Travel Agency magazine I participated in the inaugural crossing, from Civitavecchia to Savona, of Costa Toscana flagship Coast Cruises. An event "for a few intimates", since on board we were only a few hundred people (plus the full crew, of course), on a ship that has a capacity for 6730 passengers. In short, a more unique opportunity to explore and preview the new green ship of the Costa Crociere fleet.

Elegance Made in Italy

The new flagship is a tribute to Tuscany, the result of an extraordinary creative project, curated by Adam D. Tihany, born to exalt and make live in a single location the best of this wonderful Italian region, which gives its name to the ship, its bridges and the main public areas.

From Montalcino to Pietrasanta, passing through Viareggio, Montecatini, Lucca, Pienza, Bolgheri, Montepulciano, Costa Toscana is a real tour in Tuscany, with many spaces in which to share moments of fun, taste and conviviality.

To create an experience of design authentically "Made in Italy", the furnishings of Costa Toscana, lighting, fabrics and accessories were chosen in collaboration with 15 Italian companies of excellence, including Molteni&C ( sofas and chairs), Roda (furnitures for outdoor and indoor furniture), Flos (painting lights), Dedar and Rubelli (fabrics, upholstery, chairs, sofas), Kartell, Poltrona Frau and Alessi.

Costa Toscana cabins

Aboard Costa Tuscany there are in total 2.663 cabins, more than half of which with balcony. Confortevoli and elegant, also the rooms perfectly reflect the Italian style and taste, recalling the colors and geometries of the reference places of each bridge.

They are not particularly spacious, so for a greater comfort I recommend opting for those of the new category of rooms with "terrace on the sea" which have a sort of veranda, a splendid dependence where to have breakfast, sip an aperitif or simply enjoy the noise of the waves.

Gourmet offer

As usual on cruise ships, even on board Tuscany Coast you can enjoy different cuisines at all hours of the day, but with 21 restaurants and areas dedicated to gastronomy the gastronomic offer is really amazing.

Among all stands the restaurant Archipelago of Costa Toscana that allows you to experience a truly unique culinary experience, I tell you, declined in three menus signed by as many great chefs: Bruno Barbieri, Hélène Darroze and Ángel León. This exceptional trio of star chefs went to discover the authentic local recipes of the places visited by the Costa ships, which are proposed through the Destination, individual dishes that interpret the tradition and flavors of the place that you will visit the next day.

To try also the Pizzeria Pummid’Oro, Sushino and Teppanyaki. In addition, on Costa Toscana families with children is dedicated an entire restaurant, it "Squok Restaurant", designed and designed according to their needs. In the Food LAB, guests can experience their skills in the kitchen under the guidance of Chef Costa.

To enjoy a drink in total relaxation there is only the embarrassment of choice with 19 bar, including thematic bars in collaboration with major Italian and international partners, such as Caffè Vergnano 1882, the Campari Bar, two Aperol Spritz Bar, the Ferrari Spazio Bollicine, and the new Heineken Star Club and BistroThe first pub on a cruise ship, and Kartell Cafè.

The latter is an environment of 700 square meters on deck 8 with a spectacular overlooking the Colosseum space of the ship, furnished with the most iconic pieces of the brand, from the sessions Cara and Madame of Philippe Starck to the sofas Betty by Piero Lissoni, from the stools Eur by Fabio Novembre to the tables Multiplo by Antonio Citterio, all illuminated by the lamps Bloom by Ferruccio Laviani.

In the area there is also a Kartell shop where you can buy design elements of the brand that will then be delivered to your destination once you land.

Entertainment and well-being

The "heart" of the new flagship is the Colosseum, the space at the center of the ship spread over three bridges, dedicated to the best shows. The bright screens, positioned both on the walls and on the dome, offer the possibility to create a different story in every port of call and at every moment of the day, from sunrise to sunset. Around the square there are some of the main themed lounge bars.

Piazza del Campo is instead a large staircase overlooking the stern, on three bridges: the ideal place for the moments of entertainment of the guests, both large and small, with an outdoor balcony on the last bridge whose crystal floor will make live the emotion of flying on the sea. Piazza dei Miracoli, at the end of the ship, is the meeting point of three different experiences on board: shopping, tasting and entertainment.

Another suggestive and panoramic point is the Volare Walk, which reaches the highest point of the ship at 65 meters height, while the Poltrona Frau Arena is a multifunctional space, which can become theater for shows during the day and evening, or disco during the night. For the fun of the little ones there are the Splash WaterPark, with the slide on the highest deck, a new area dedicated to videogames, and the Squok Club.

The wellness area Sole Mio hosts beauty salon, sauna, hammam, four swimming pools, including a blanket with salt water and a thalassotherapy, 16 treatment rooms and the rooms of snow, salt and relaxation. For those who want to stay in shape also on holiday there is a gym, equipped with the latest Technogym news, and a field with a sea view.

A Green Ship

Costa Toscana is powered by LNG, liquefied natural gas, the technology currently most advanced in the marine sector to reduce emissions. Thanks to this technology it is possible to eliminate almost totally the intake of sulphur oxides (zero emissions) and particulate (reduction of 95-100%), significantly lowering emissions of nitrogen oxide (direct reduction of 85%) and CO2 (up to 20%). In addition to this, the ship has a series of cutting-edge technological innovations designed to further reduce the environmental impact.

The entire daily water requirement of the ship is satisfied by transforming that of the sea through the use of salters. Energy consumption is reduced to a minimum thanks to an intelligent energy efficiency system.

Moreover, on board 100% of separate collection is carried out and recycling of materials such as plastic, paper, glass and aluminum, which will be part of an integrated approach, aimed at the realization of projects of circular economy.
