After our stay in Avignon, among the many routes that cross the South Rhone valley, we have chosen to travel Route des Vins Dentelles de Montmirail, that embraces that unique geological wonder that are the majestic limestone walls with finely chiselled crests that look like lace (dentelles in French) of stone suspended in the air.
At the foot of this mirabilis mons, the "mount to admire" of Latin memory, the terroir reveals its extraordinary complexity: gentle slopes alternate with steep hills and terraces, in a mosaic of soils ranging from red and black clays to pebbles, sands to the ocher lands of the Triassic.

Our journey along the Via del Vino delle Dentelles de Montmirail begins Beaumes-de-Venise, small jewel set in the hills of Vaucluse. Its "balmes", the natural caves that give name to the village, preserve ancient stories of refuges and silences, but today its true treasure shines in the glass, because here is produced the famous Muscat de Beaumes-de-Venise, one of the finest wines of the Rhône Valley, symbol of elegance and Provençal light.
Not by chance is one of the Rhonéa, the cooperative that since 1925 brings together three hundred families of "vignaioli artisans", custodians of a heritage of over two thousand hectares of terroir and producers of a wide range of local denominations.

Every stop is a story: a Romanesque chapel overlooking the valley, the silent alleys of the old village, the fragrance of freshly baked bread in a boulangerie, a panoramic point that stretches on the plain of Comtat Venaissin. Wine tasting in Land Rover in Sarrians
Leave the e-bikes, we move towards Sarrians, where we expect a very original experience: a "winner safari" on a Land Rover vintage among the spinning mills Domaine Fontaine du Clos, a winery that for generations has cultivated vines for vineyards throughout Europe. The day ends in Les Florets, a refined hotel de charme at the foot of the Dentelles, which welcomes us with the discreet elegance of Provençal residences. While in the restaurant there is a dinner that is a tribute to the flavors of the territory and a lavish wine card, over 450 labels with an extraordinary selection of wines of the Rhône Valley, including the owners' estate. Every dish is a meeting, every glass is a tale of land and light, while silence envelops the valley and the moon of silver sail the peaks of the Dentelles.
Wine Assembly Workshop at Ferme Saint-Martin
The second day of our journey along the Route des Vins Dentelles de Montmirail we head towards the eastern side of the massif, destination the Domaine de la Ferme Saint-MartinIn the village of Suzette. The road that climbs through woods and vineyards is already in itself a small journey that gives spectacular views of the Dentelles before leading us to the cellar.
A small jewel set at 450 meters of altitude, which tells a family story of passion for wine handed down for generations, that today Sophie and Thomas Jullien share with visitors proposing unique experiences of wine tourism in Provence, think about discovering the world of wine in a playful and fun way even to those who approach you without great knowledge.
Among these, wine assembly workshop, to which we participate, is undoubtedly one of the most engaging activities that can be lived in the area, perfect for those who love to discover and experience. In practice, between dosatories, graduated cylinders and laughter, you play an eenologist for a day, mixing different varieties, Syrah, Cinsault, Terret Noir and Grenache, to create your own personal cuvée. At the end, each bottle its creation, to take home as a souvenir of this unforgettable day.
But before leaving the company, we do not miss the opportunity of a panoramic picnic on the beautiful terrace with local salami, goat cheese, baguette, wine of the house and an unparalleled view of the small village perched among the vineyards that seems an impressionist picture.
Obligation to Vaison-la-Romaine
Leaving behind us the wavy rows of Suzette, we find ourselves immersed in the sweetness of Vaison-la-Romaine, stage of obligation Route des Vins Dentelles de Montmirail, it was nothing else because it was inserted between 100 Plus Beaux Détours de France, that is, they deserve absolutely a deviation. Let's try to feel instead that to see, to recognize the spicy depth of the Syrah, the fruity sweetness of the Grenache, the mineral notes of the terroir. In that sensory darkness that amplifies every perception, it is the wine that speaks, revealing its soul. It is an intimate and surprising experience that transforms tasting into a form of sensory meditation.
Sweet Dreams Provençal style at La Verrière
In the heart of the Domaine du Chêne Bleu is located La Verrière, an ancient medieval priory transformed into an eco-luxury retreat of elegance and peace. Its stone walls and vaulted rooms tell about eleven centuries of history, but inside this refined dwelling is the quintessence of Provençal hospitality. The rooms open onto views that take your breath away, while the kitchen celebrates the territory with potager vegetables, local cheeses, olive oils and estate wines.
